These authors and many of those published by the Journal "Deviant Behavior" primarily reflect a viewpoint clouded by social stigma and sexual double standard. This particular work provides a flawed line of reasoning that is unfortunately furthered, uncorrected, in other vetted authors (Forsyth, Sweet and Tewksbury.)

The rationale is that stripping is a deviant form of work, therefore the women who do it are flawed and there must be some sort of explanation from their background. Seeking causation for stripping simply because evidence of dysfunction or abuse preceeded the act of stripping is a logical fallacy of questionable cause - POST HOC ERGO PROPTER HOC. The presence of dysfunctional families or abuse in the history of dancers may not be the cause of their stripping anymore than these events lead to careers in law, sociology, psychology, public office or academia. These studies are largely anecdotal interviews containing circular logic begging the question that stripping is deviant. Further, the fallacy of omission of relevant data both from control groups and (until Tewskbury's later works) on the men who pay women to strip, require that the reader exercise a critical eye.
